Why crop a PDF

Wide white margins make a document hard to read on a phone or tablet, dark scanner edges spoil the look, and printing often needs only the central part of the page. Cropping sets new boundaries for every page at once: say how many millimetres to trim on each side, judge the result on the preview and download the file. Text and graphics are not redrawn in the process.

How to crop a PDF

  1. 1

    Upload the PDF — the first page appears in the preview.

  2. 2

    Enter the top, bottom, left and right offsets in millimetres.

  3. 3

    Check on the preview that nothing important falls outside the crop.

  4. 4

    Click Crop and download the PDF with its new margins.

What cropping does here

  • Precise offsets

    Margins are set in millimetres, the same for every page of the document.

  • Preview

    A frame on the page shows what will remain after cropping, before you save.

  • All pages at once

    The same offsets apply to every page — no extra steps.

  • No quality loss

    Only the page boundaries change; the content stays vector-sharp.

  • Easier reading

    Without margins the text is larger on a phone or e-reader screen.

  • Clean scans

    Dark edges and scanner marks disappear along with the trimmed margins.

  • No sign-up

    Works right away; no account needed.

  • Files are not kept

    The source and the result are deleted from the server automatically after an hour.

When you need it

Cropping helps whenever the pages carry something extra around the edges:

  • scans have dark or ragged edges from the scanner glass;
  • an article with wide margins is hard to read on a phone;
  • headers and footers in the margins must go before printing;
  • only the central part of a drawing or diagram is needed;
  • presentation pages have unwanted frames around them.

How cropping works

A PDF stores the page content and, separately, the page's visible boundaries. The tool moves those boundaries inwards by the millimetres you set, so everything that sat in the margins stops being shown and printed, and the page itself becomes smaller. The content is not recompressed: vector text stays vector and scans keep their resolution.

How to choose the offsets

Start with small values — 10 to 15 mm — and watch the preview: the frame shows the new boundary on the first page. Book scans usually have different margins on the left and right, so set each side separately. If text comes closer to the edge on some pages than on the first one, leave some room — the offsets apply to the whole document.
