Why remove metadata
A PDF knows more about itself than its pages show: who created it, in which application, when it was edited, which keywords were added. Send the file out and you send all of that too. The tool shows which details the document stores and removes them all: the standard properties, the dates and the extended XMP block. The page content stays untouched.
How to remove metadata
- 1
Upload the PDF — the tool lists the properties it found: author, title, application and so on.
- 2
Review the list — this is everything that will be removed.
- 3
Click Remove metadata.
- 4
Download the cleaned file.
What cleaning does
Shows what it found
Before removal you see exactly which details the file stores.
All standard fields
Title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer.
Dates
The creation and modification dates go along with everything else.
XMP block
Extended metadata in XML form that duplicates the properties is removed too.
Content untouched
Text, images, links and bookmarks stay as they were.
Verify the result
Upload the cleaned file again — the tool confirms that no metadata is left.
No sign-up
Works right away; no account needed.
Files are not kept
The source and the result are deleted from the server automatically after an hour.
When you need it
Clean the metadata before a file leaves your organisation or computer:
- a CV or application should not reveal whose template it was made from;
- a document is published on a website — without employee names in its properties;
- a quote goes to a client without internal notes;
- a file is handed over under a confidentiality requirement;
- the properties are full of junk and wiping is easier than editing.
What exactly is removed
The standard PDF property dictionary — title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer, creation and modification dates — and the XMP block, which holds the same data in XML form and which some viewers read first. After cleaning, the Document Properties window in any program is empty.
What cleaning does not do
The tool does not change the page content: names and dates printed in the text itself, in headers, footers or signatures, remain. Attached files, comments and hidden layers are not removed either — that calls for a full editor. If the document is locked with a password, enter it and the file opens for cleaning.
