Why sign a PDF online

A contract, application, delivery note or consent form arrives as a PDF, and a signed file is expected back — printing, signing with a pen and scanning for the sake of one line takes ages. Draw your signature with a mouse or finger, type it in a handwriting font or upload a photo from paper and the tool removes the background. Then click the page where the signature belongs, nudge it into place and download the document. This is an image of your signature on the document, as on paper — not a certificate-based electronic signature.

How to sign a PDF

  1. 1

    Upload the PDF and pick the page.

  2. 2

    Create the signature: draw it, type it or upload a photo.

  3. 3

    Click the spot on the page, move the signature and set its size.

  4. 4

    Click Sign and download the document.

What the tool does

  • Three ways

    Draw with a mouse or finger, type in a handwriting font, or upload a photo of your signature.

  • Clean background

    The light background of a signature photographed on paper is removed automatically — only the stroke remains.

  • Exact placement

    The signature is placed with a click and moved with the mouse, a finger or the arrow keys.

  • Any size

    Set the signature width to fit the Signature: ______ line.

  • Any page

    Switch between pages and sign wherever it is needed.

  • On a phone

    Drawing a signature with a finger on the screen is easier than with a mouse.

  • No sign-up

    Works right away; no account needed.

  • Files are not kept

    The source, the signature and the result are deleted from the server automatically after an hour.

When you need it

A signature goes on a PDF whenever paper would just slow things down:

  • a contract or addendum with a business partner;
  • an application, consent or questionnaire to send by email;
  • a certificate of completed work or a delivery note;
  • paperwork for a school, clinic or property manager;
  • any form with a Signature field.

Which signature to choose

A drawn signature is closest to the real thing, especially on a phone or tablet. One typed in a handwriting font looks neat and suits internal documents and approvals. An uploaded photo of your actual signature on paper is the most convincing option: sign on a white sheet in good light, photograph it, and the tool makes the background transparent.

The legal side

The tool adds an image of your signature to the page — the equivalent of signing a printout with a pen. Such a document is accepted wherever a simple signature is enough: most contracts, applications and certificates between parties who trust each other. It is not a qualified electronic signature with a certificate; where the law requires one, use a certificate authority's tools.
